Short Bio
Jessie is a documentary filmmaker and photographer who got her start in 2014, when she began working with EarthRights International to document human rights violations and the communities fighting to defend them throughout the Mekong and Amazon Regions. Her dedication to using video to educate and and empower lead her to the School of Visual Arts’ Social Documentary Film program, where she received her MFA in 2018. Her thesis film, The Boxers of Brule, tells the story of a girls' boxing team created in the wake of rising youth suicide rates within their tribe, the Kul Wicasa Oyate. The film screened at festivals internationally and is available to stream on Vice.
